You’ll Be Left to Take the Blame’ -Cop Shakur Kihara Warns Police Over Illegal Orders
Former prison warder turned human rights activist Cop Shakur Kihara has cautioned police officers against carrying out unlawful orders from their superiors, warning that junior officers often end up taking the blame while those who allegedly orchestrate crimes escape accountability.
Reacting to the ongoing investigation into the murder of psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso, Kihara claimed that the government issued firearm used in the killing was allegedly handled by police officer Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, whom investigators have identified as the suspected shooter.
Kihara argued that some junior officers may be tempted to commit illegal acts in the hope of receiving money, promotions or other favours from senior officers. He warned that once investigations begin, those same senior figures may distance themselves, leaving the junior officers to face the full consequences of the law alone.
He further alleged that officers who issue unlawful instructions often remain protected while those who execute the orders become the public face of the crime and bear the legal burden.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has continued with investigations into Dr Victoria Mutiso’s murder and has already arrested several suspects while pursuing others believed to have played different roles in the alleged conspiracy. Authorities maintain that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
